Wander: A Transparent-Pricing Tourism Booking Platform

Travel & Hospitality

At a glance: Saigon Technology designed and built Wander, a tourism booking platform that sells stays, flights, tours, and transport through a single checkout, and refuses to hide the price. Every listing shows taxes and fees upfront, the quoted price is locked until checkout, and refunds move through a tracker the traveler can watch.

Wander spans four surfaces on one design system: a mobile traveler app, a responsive web experience, a self-service Partner Hub for suppliers, and an Admin Console that enforces the platform’s pricing and quality rules.

What The Client Required

Multi-vertical inventory and one-checkout trips

  • Four inventory types under one search: stays, flights, tours, and transport, each with its own result card, filters, and detail layout, rather than four disconnected mini-products.
  • A trip builder that bundles: combine a flight, a stay, and a tour into a single itinerary with one checkout and a bundle discount, instead of forcing travelers to book three times in three places.
  • Search that survives real conditions: list and map views, sorting, a filter sheet covering price ceiling, minimum guest rating, amenities and trust filters, plus designed loading and empty states so a slow or fruitless search still feels handled.

Pricing a traveler can trust

  • All-in pricing, enforced platform-wide: every listing must display taxes and fees upfront, with a line-item breakdown on the detail page and a toggle between nightly rate and total-including-taxes.
  • A price-lock guarantee: the quoted price cannot change between search and checkout, carried through the interface as a visible price-lock marker on cards and a locked total on the booking bar.
  • A cap on dynamic pricing: surge limited to a defined multiple of base rate, set as an administrator policy rather than left to individual suppliers.

Refunds and rebooking a traveler can track

  • A refund tracker: refunds move through visible stages, from requested to approved to processing to paid, with the destination wallet and expected date shown throughout.
  • Honest booking states: trips carry distinct confirmed, pending, refunding, completed, and cancelled states, so "awaiting supplier" is never disguised as "confirmed."
  • A booking guarantee: if a confirmation or cancellation fails, the platform rebooks the traveler or refunds in full.
  • A support hub built around ownership: emergency rebooking for stranded travelers, a route to a human rather than a phone tree, one named owner per case, and shortcuts for the three requests that dominate travel support: change my dates, explain the cancellation policy, find my missing voucher.

Payments and language built for the Vietnam market

  • Local payment rails first: e-wallets, domestic bank transfer, international cards, and pay-at-property, presented in the order Vietnamese travelers actually use them rather than card-first by default.
  • Currency and language switching: prices in Vietnamese đồng with alternative currencies available, and an interface that carries Vietnamese diacritics correctly at every weight.
  • Regional inventory depth: destination discovery built around domestic and near-region travel patterns.

Supplier self-service

  • A Partner Hub suppliers run themselves: publish and pause room types, work a bookings queue, and manage availability on a calendar without emailing an account manager.
  • Analytics that answer commercial questions: revenue trend, occupancy, average length of stay, cancellation rate, and a breakdown of which source markets are actually booking.

Marketplace governance

  • An Admin Console with real levers: supplier verification, content moderation for photos and messages, commission tiers, and campaign management.
  • Policy set centrally, not per listing: all-in pricing, the price-lock guarantee, and the dynamic pricing cap are platform switches, so the marketplace's promises hold everywhere by construction.

One design system across every surface

  • A shared component library: a documented style guide covering typography, color, icons, cards, badges, and form controls, used identically by the mobile app, the web experience, and both back-office consoles.
  • Token-driven theming: light and dark modes and accent variants that flip across all four surfaces from one set of design tokens.

Our Technologies

  • Front end: React component architecture shared across mobile and desktop layouts, with screens composed from a common primitive set rather than rebuilt per surface.
  • Design system: CSS custom properties as design tokens, driving light/dark modes, accent themes, currency formatting, and language switching from a single source.
  • Interface assets: a hand-built inline SVG icon set and chart primitives, revenue trends, occupancy gauges, sparklines, and availability calendars, with no external chart dependency.
  • Delivery format: the whole platform ships as a self-contained, runnable prototype covering four surfaces, so reviewers can click through real flows instead of reading a specification.

Challenges

  • Three parties, opposed interests: travelers want a price that does not move, suppliers want to price dynamically, and the platform needs both.
  • Transparency competes with revenue: all-in prices and locked quotes surrender the levers marketplaces use to win on headline rate.
  • The fear is the refund, not the booking: travelers hesitate over what happens when a trip breaks.
  • Fragmented payment rails: in Vietnam, e-wallets and bank transfer outweigh cards, so card-first checkout loses bookings.
  • Suppliers behind account managers: availability and pricing changes needing a human middleman do not scale.
  • Four surfaces, one promise: every guarantee must hold identically on phone, browser, supplier dashboard, and admin console.

Solutions

  • A two-sided marketplace on one data model: travelers and suppliers each get a surface built for their own job, but both read and write the same records, so a price quoted, a booking accepted, and an itinerary tracked are never separate copies that drift apart.
  • An Admin Console that holds the rulebook: all-in pricing, the price-lock guarantee, and the surge cap live as platform-wide policies rather than per-listing settings, so neither side can quietly opt out of the promises the brand makes.

The Outcome

Saigon Technology

Wander demonstrates, end to end, what a transparent-pricing booking platform looks like when transparency is enforced by the system rather than promised in marketing copy. What the build delivers. A traveler experience covering the full journey: discovery, search, listing detail, booking, payment, confirmation, trips, refunds, and support, on both mobile and responsive web. Pricing integrity carried in the product: taxes and fees upfront, a locked quote through checkout, and a cap on surge pricing. A refund and post-booking layer that makes recovery visible, with tracked refund stages, honest booking states, and a support model built on named case ownership. A supplier Partner Hub for inventory, bookings, and commercial analytics, removing the account-manager bottleneck. An Admin Console that turns marketplace policy into enforceable platform settings. A documented design system proving all of it holds across four surfaces, two themes, two languages, and multiple currencies.

Our Approach

Feature Image

Rather than treating honest pricing as a marketing claim, we made it structural: all-in pricing and price-lock are platform policies enforced in the Admin Console, so a supplier cannot list a hidden fee and the promise cannot quietly erode.

Traveler, supplier, and administrator each got a surface designed for their actual job, but built from the same components and reading the same records, no reconciliation, no drift between what each party sees.

Local payment rails, đồng pricing, Vietnamese typography, and regional destination patterns were designed in from the start, not retrofitted as a localization pass over a Western default.

A token-driven library with a published style guide meant theming, currency, and language changes propagate everywhere at once, and made the prototype a reusable foundation rather than a throwaway mockup.

Looking ahead (future phases)

Wander is structured to move from prototype to production without redesign. The natural next phases are the production back end and booking engine, payment gateway integration and certification for the local wallet and transfer rails, supplier onboarding and verification workflows at scale, and connection to channel managers and global distribution systems so third-party inventory can flow into the same transparent-pricing rules.
